Greg Vogel, Associate Head of School, earned his BA from Alfred University and his MA in Administration from Western Maryland College. After spending five years as a Development Office research analyst and assistant men’s soccer coach at Dartmouth College, Greg previously served as Oliverian’s Associate Head from 2004 to 2012. Upon leaving Oliverian, he worked as the Executive and later Associate Director of Mountain Valley Treatment Center, a short-term treatment center for adolescents suffering from extreme anxiety disorders and OCD. In his return to his role at Oliverian, Greg will help to pioneer many new programs and work closely with various departments to provide students with the best possible experience.
Having worked with high school and college students at various developmental levels, Greg believes that adolescent education comes from many sources, particularly those outside the classroom. He also believes the most important work happens during the “in-between moments” of education when faculty can mentor, inspire, and guide students for life.
What do you love most about Oliverian?
“There’s an awful lot I love about Oliverian, but what I love the most is the challenge in our work and the real commitment to teamwork. Somewhere along the line I really adhered to the intrinsic reward and the feeling you get from hard work and hard circumstances. I love the fact that every day presents unique challenges. It’s never boring and it’s hard. It takes grit. I like that about it.”
What motivates you to work with kids?
“What motivates me to work with kids is that it’s the single best investment we can make as adults. I was very fortunate to have had significant, positive non-parental adults in my life. I try to play that role for Oliverian students and my kids play that role for their peers. It’s really important to give back, be supportive, and have empathy.”
