Color Makes Us Smile!
While Mother Nature can always be counted on to peek through the veil of winter and dazzle us with the colors of Spring, we at Oliverian are so fortunate to have our own special supply of color. One of our “Storied” teachers makes it her personal mission to ensure we always have a smile on our faces. She does this with the gift of color, delivered through the simplest of mediums; paper. During wintertime, we were bedazzled with colorful and intricately crafted snowflakes throughout the school building and offices.
This morning, I was surprised by a hallway of colorful origami star bursts that just made me smile. Sometimes it is the simplest of gifts that make someone’s day, and this in turn always creates the sense of cheer that helps to hold together our supportive boarding school. This teacher brings to the table that true sense of “stewardship ethos” by always leaving a space better than she found it – a difficult thing to find in our fast-paced, all too often self-serving culture of catch-as-catch-can. In the simplest of moments, by slowing down and folding some paper, she delivers the sense of care and joy we all need to drive us forward in our work with these struggling teens. Thank you, Story Southworth, for dosing us with yet another fun color burst and your impeccable timing!
