Many people think that artists are solitary creatures who create their work in isolation. Each year during faculty orientation I set out to disprove this misconception! As Oliverian’s visual arts teacher, I design and facilitate a yearly collaborative art project, with the goal being to create a visual representation of our faculty. We are all artists, and everybody is encouraged to participate.
This year we created a mixed media collage to frame and hang in the academic building. Each faculty member was asked to reflect on what personal attributes they bring to the Oliverian community and to creatively represent that attribute on strips of paper. Their words were carefully assembled around the “We Are” circle with hand-painted paper. The result is a creative, colorful portrait of the Oliverian faculty!
