What motivates you to work with young people?
“Working with children and their families has always been a passion of mine. It touches my heart to see students explore the world, discovering who it is they are and it is such an honor and joy to assist them in finding their place in this world. Young people motivate me to explore and see things in different ways. As Michael W Smith sings:
‘The wind is moving, but I am standing still, a life of pages, waiting to be filled, a heart that’s hopeful, a head that’s full of dreams, but this becoming, is harder than it seems, feels like I’m, looking for a reason, roaming through the night to find my place in this world, if there are millions down on their knees, among the many, can you still hear me? Hear me asking where do I belong? Is there a vision that I can call my own? Show me I’m looking for a reason’
I want to help students and young people navigate this crazy thing we call life. To help them find the ‘who’ in who they are. I want to be a role model for them so that they know in life you can have things happen but you can come through it better than you ever realized possible. In reflection students remind me of this quote: ‘Just when the caterpillar thought the world was over it became a butterfly (unknown)… but then it spread its wings and it was then it learned to fly (B.D)…Helping students find their purpose, joy, passion, and brilliance is something that make my world complete.”
