Alice Scheller Mainville

Dorm Parent

Dorm Parent, was born and raised in Paterson, New Jersey. Having vacationed in New England as a child, its natural beauty drew her back to relocate after graduating high school. Her first stop was Boston where she lived while attending New England School of Art & Design and Emerson College.

After graduation, Alice left the city for small town life on Boston’s North Shore to raise her family. Her passion for shaping the lives of children extended beyond her home, first by serving on the Amesbury Youth Advisory Council and then working in an alternative charter school for at-risk teens. It also led to her earning a master’s degree in school counseling. Being able to apply her education and experience at Oliverian is a dream come true. In her spare time, she enjoys cooking, cycling, photography, cross-country skiing, and road trips.

What do you love about Oliverian?
“What I love most about Oliverian is feeling like I'm a member of an extremely unique, fun and dedicated family. Everyone here — faculty and students — contributes something special. Being involved in the process of furthering our mission with such committed co-workers is something I feel fortunate to be a part of. The fact that it all takes place in a beautiful mountain setting is a definite plus!”

What motivates you to work with kids?
“Teenagers hold a place close to my heart as they are at such a critical crossroads in their lives. Because I remember what it was like and, having gone through similar struggles as many of our students, I feel a calling to help them navigate the bumps in the road that come with adolescence. With a newly empty nest, I wasn't ready to hang up my ‘mom’ hat. Working with Oliverian students is a wonderful opportunity because I can help young people find their path while learning from them in the process.”
